About a year ago, I started watching Japanese dramas and some TV shows. It turns out that I am really into it and start to follow new dramas every season....haha I know I should probably quit it to do my engineering homework instead...anyway....It is really painful to wait for the substitles for those Janpanese dramas. At first, I have no idea what's going on there without subtiltles. But as more and more dramas I watched, I realized that I can understand some words they are saying. So I think maybe I can start learning Japanese so that I dont have to wait for the subtiltles anymore....and for the subtitiles....It seems that everyone has their own translation for the drama. So there are acutally several versions of one drama. It sometimes really confused me...So I decided....why bother to read other ones' translation...I can have my own understanding....haha....oh, there is actually another reason, that is Japanese and Chinese are pretty close. At least " かんじ（漢字）" they are using, although the pronounciations are different, I can figure out some of the meaning by looking at them....haha so hopefully I can start watching dramas without subtitles...lets say in one year? lol... dont say I am day dreaming....

I figured that one of the hardest parts about learning Japanese is to memorize Kanji. I do not know how many Kanji needed to understand a proper Japanese text, but I know it would be painful to learn all of them;;

Which dramas Japanese dramas do you watch?
I think it's very interesting that you bring up this point... my parents never really spoke Korean while I was growing up. All the Korean I learned was from my grandma, music/movies, and class. If I feel particularly out of the loop (with my Korean skills) I watch TV shows to make sure my ears are trained... or I call grandma. :)
