Katakana Analysis

The reason I use New York(ニューヨーク), Green peas(グリンピース), handsome(ハンサム) and class(クラス) in Katakana is because they are English words. Loan words should be written in Katakana is the biggest category of Katakana.

The word グリンピース is actually interesting becuase I think they have the oringinal word for green peas in Hiragana and Kanji. From the 野菜辞書(やさいじしょ)I found on line, green peas can be either called グリンピース or 豌豆(えんどう).

However, it is interesting that I always hear people say グリンピース, rarely use えんどう. The reason they always using グリンピース I guess is that グリンピース is always related to some 外国料理(がいこくりょり)more than 和食(わしょく), like カレー, 中華料理(ちゅかりょうり) . Therefore, when people think about green peas, it is more like a foreign word. I think that's maybe why "green peas" is mostly used as in Katakana.

( ^ _ ^) so sweet that they actually have this kind of dictionary.
Here is the website of 「野菜辞書」
So cute~

豌豆(えんどう):Green peas
外国料理(がいこくりょり):Foreign りょうり
中華料理(ちゅかりょうり):Chinese りょうり
和食(わしょく):Japanese-style meal

Jade さん、

From your very adventurous previous katakana project posting, I would have expected much more adventurous senryus than the ones you posted! Maybe some use of onomatopoeia could have been interesting??

Also, I think it would be good if you could incorporate the special rhythm of senryu which is 5.7.5.

がんばってください!!

Hello Jadesan,

Thank you for your feedback on my Senryu.

Unfortunately, 2 of my 3 did not conform to Senryu's 5-7-5 form, or 17 total form.

I am a bit confused by this. Wiki did not clear the issue up for me, either.

I was hoping you would provide a translation of your works.

If you find a moment, will you do that, because I would love to know what I am reading in your works.

Also, you're analysis of green peas was very well considered.

Best,

Greg

I have posted the translation!
Yeah,the 5-7-5 form is hard...
some of mine didn't follow that rule neither.
Anyway,
Thanks for your comment~

Haha! ありがとうございます!ジェードさんははやいですね。

You're fast!

Thank you, I enjoyed your senryu very much!

NYC is windy, especially on campus!

In some places the narrow openings between the buildings become wind chambers.

Some people can't stand green peas. However, I am not one of them. I love green peas! Well done, Jadesan.

ジャドさんもとりをたべましたか。 haha.

I really like your senryu. They're very lighthearted and funny (just like me). I especially like the one about Japanese class. (not to say that I dont love going to Japanese class, Hamada sensei) Your use of Katakana in your senryu make them look more varied and complex.

Jade さん、

わたしはこのせんりゅうはおもしろいだとおもいました。

Especially, I like how to describe your Katakana analysis. They are pretty thoughtful and analystic

Your senryus are creative and well convey your personal thoughts to others in a simple way.

And your senryus seem to be more advanced than how much we have learned in Japanese class so far, especially some of the vocabs that you use. I found it a bit difficult to understand them at first, but after getting to know their meanings, I found your senryus very interesting.

いいですね。
