作文３：二十年後の私

いつもみらいがみえないタイプですから、にじゅうねんごのわたしはどこでなにをしていますか、あまりわかりません。でもすきのものときらいのものがよくわかります。おんがくやたべものがすきです。そしてべんきょうやうんどうがきらいです。

にじゅうねんごのわたしはもうよんじゅっさいです。たぶんかぞくとペキンにいます。ときどきりょこうをします。わたしはつきへいきたいです。しごとはなんですか。エンジニアですか。わたしのせんこうはいまエンジニアです。そのまえにバイオロジーでした。エンジニアのクラスはむずかしいですが、バイオロジーよりたのしいです。だからエンジニアのほうがいいです。

もうよんじゅっさいのわたしはたぶんけっこんしています。こどももいますか。わたしはぜんぜんほしいくありませんが、たぶんわたしだけ。りょうしんはこどもがだいすきです。にほんごがよくわかりますか。それともぜんぶおぼえでませんか。とにかくみらいがみえないですが、わたしはがんばります。かぞくのために。そしてじぶんのために。

Katakana　Analysis

The reason I use New York（ニューヨーク）, Green peas（グリンピース）, handsome（ハンサム） and class（クラス） in Katakana is because they are English words. Loan words should be written in Katakana is the biggest category of Katakana.

The word グリンピース is actually interesting becuase I think they have the oringinal word for green peas in Hiragana and Kanji. From the 野菜辞書（やさいじしょ）I found on line, green peas can be either called グリンピース or 豌豆（えんどう）.

However, it is interesting that I always hear people say グリンピース, rarely use えんどう. The reason they always using グリンピース I guess is that グリンピース is always related to some 外国料理（がいこくりょり）more than 和食（わしょく）, like カレー, 中華料理（ちゅかりょうり） . Therefore, when people think about green peas, it is more like a foreign word. I think that's maybe why "green peas" is mostly used as in Katakana.

Katakana Analysis

I have posted the Katakana words I found in the last post. There are a lot of them are insteresting. It actually fun that the moment you figure out which words it is just by keeping pronouncing or staring at each katakana character. But it can be painful in the quiz too I guess...

Anyway, during those words I found most of them are loanwords. たとえば, ミルク is milk, ソフトキャンデー is soft candy, ディズニーリソート is Disney Resort, コーヒーパウダ is coffee powder and so on. Of course, there is onoatopoeia, like ピカピカ as shinny, フワフワ as fluffy. For the third group, katakana for emphasis. I am not really sure about that. It is kind of hard to tell whether it belongs to loanwords or emphasis categories , and sometimes it counts for both. So I guess when Katakana words are written in large font or in bright color, such as on a poster (ハンコック -- Hankock) or magazine. The purpose is probably to emphasize, and of course it can be loanwords or onoatopoeia at the same time.

Two words I found most interesting are ディズニーリソート(Disney Resort) and ソフトキャンデー ( soft candy). One of them is on my 携帯（けいたい）ストラプ（strap) and the other one is from the 「北海道（ほうっかいどう）」candy bag. The reason why ディズニーリソート is written in Katakana, I think Disney is a place mostly for kids and Katakana are pretty simple, it's all about straight lines. Therefore, if it is written in Katakana, it will be easy to read and memorize(only for Janpanese I guess...They all look the same for me...) other than written in Hiragana, Kanji or English. Same reason for the other word ソフトキャンデー ( soft candy) written in Katakana first it is an English word and then for emphasis too. They are trying to let their customers notice that how ソフト their candy is and how much ミルク they put in too, so that customers like me will buy it.

Different textbooks introduce katakana in different ways. It might because the way to use Katakana is flexiable. It depends on people who use it. However, most of the textbooks have covered that the biggest use of katakana is for foreign words. For its other uses, I guess I'll just figure out as I am learning more and more Japanese.

Why Japanese

About a year ago, I started watching Japanese dramas and some TV shows. It turns out that I am really into it and start to follow new dramas every season....haha I know I should probably quit it to do my engineering homework instead...anyway....It is really painful to wait for the substitles for those Janpanese dramas. At first, I have no idea what's going on there without subtiltles. But as more and more dramas I watched, I realized that I can understand some words they are saying. So I think maybe I can start learning Japanese so that I dont have to wait for the subtiltles anymore....and for the subtitiles....It seems that everyone has their own translation for the drama. So there are acutally several versions of one drama. It sometimes really confused me...So I decided....why bother to read other ones' translation...I can have my own understanding....haha....oh, there is actually another reason, that is Japanese and Chinese are pretty close. At least " かんじ（漢字）" they are using, although the pronounciations are different, I can figure out some of the meaning by looking at them....haha so hopefully I can start watching dramas without subtitles...lets say in one year? lol... dont say I am day dreaming....
